A
challenging environment
As an internationally successful chemical company, Celanese expects top performance from its management. We want to achieve significant long-term growth in our
core businesses by continuing to expand in our key products in which we hold leading market positions
and by opening up new markets. We also want to safeguard our cost leadership by constantly increasing
productivity across the company.
Our employees - The key to our success
Our ability to be successful as a company largely comes
down to the skills and motivation of our employees. However a culture in which employees can maximize their potential and
improve their performance demands excellent leadership. For this reason is is just as important for Celanese to prepare the future generation of leaders for
their work as it is to find new customers, develop new products or advance technologies.
Leadership
development at Celanese
Celanese top management views leadership development as
a management task and invests a lot of time and energy to choosing and developing future leaders.
Celanese
not only expects its leaders to be results-oriented, set ambitious goals, delegate tasks well and give
constructive feedback; it also expects them to successfully work across borders, develop visions and
think and plan long-term in a complex, international environment. Thus the Celanese leadership development
is characterized by development across regions, functions and divisions. As they make their careers,
future leaders should include international experience within different functions and departments of
the company. There is a focus on on-the-job training, accompanied by regular feedback. When openings
are filled, the company chooses the best-suited candidate with an eye to long-term development goals
for the individual and the company.
Junior management at Celanese Our investment in the future
Special training programs enable our junior management to work together and to engage directly with the senior management team.
The training includes an “emerging leaders forum”, in which junior management from a variety of countries,
functions and divisions works together for several months to present solutions to strategically important company projects to the management board. In “executive dialogue”, junior management
discuss their career opportunities and challenges with experienced executives in one-on-one meetings.
We
have a strong focus on developing our junior management, however we aim to develop all employees so that they demonstrate
management qualities. Our leaders encourage this by fostering an environment in which our employees
understand that their development lies in their own hands. This means that each individual employee
has to creatively achieve good results, constantly compare his/her performance with other employees
and industry peers, inspire co-workers and communicate personal career goals.
