What
do you do in your current job?
|
As
a US GAAP specialist, I mainly deal with US accounting principles, but in an international company like
Celanese, which has business on several continents, you cannot isolate your area of expertise. Thus,
I must always take the German Commercial Code and Germany’s tax regulations into account too. That makes
things really complex, but also extremely interesting.
|
What
is special about your job?
|
Because
I grew up in Singapore and Australia, I was involved with people from different countries and cultures, and with different mindsets from an
early age on. I have rediscovered this diversity working for a global company like Celanese. That makes
what might otherwise be a dry field like accounting varied and exciting. I am constantly working in
different areas of the world and so I always try to build bridges between them.
|
What
do you like the most about Celanese?
|
The
first thing I noticed was how warm
and open my colleagues are. They gave me a very warm welcome, which made joining a new company very
easy.
The number of opportunities one is offered here is very attractive! You
can work in different positions in a variety of countries and departments, enabling you to acquire a
great deal of knowledge, which will prove invaluable for your career.
I was
also given immediate responsibility for my area of expertise when I joined the company. That prevented boredom from ever setting in.
|
What
are your career plans?
|
I
am particularly pleased to be actively involved
in the change underway in international accounting regulations. There is a lot to learn about that,
especially abroad. I hope to work for the Group’s Financial Shared Services cross-border, thus contributing
my international background and expertise to help the company move ahead.
